The Single Brothers House was a place for single men to live while they worked. This building was built in 1769, and is still in Old Salem where you can enter into it if you buy a ticket. There is also a Single Sisters house for unmarried women who are all around the same age, and do the same jobs.
The Single Brothers House also had a garden which is still operated in Old Salem. Here the brothers grew everything they ate, and many men worked all day in the gardens. The single brothers also ran a brewery, and a slaughterhouse.
